New Hi-Tech Ford Focus Leads Way For Tech and Safety

All-new ford focus

The new, hi-tech Ford Focus leads the way for tech and safety.

Car manufacturers are finally starting to roll out next-generation updates to their most important cars, with Ford recently revealing the new Ford Fiesta and Ford Focus.

These two models account for more than 70% of Ford’s sales in the UK. The Ford Fiesta was Britain’s best-selling car in 2017 and the Focus was the third best-selling. In 2016, the same rankings applied. And in 2015. You get the idea. These models are of strategic importance to Ford, so they take their sweet time to get them right.

And right they are with the new Focus. The new hatchback - also available as an estate - has received glowing reviews across the motoring press. It’s a huge step forward in terms of refinement, performance, and style, but where it stands out most is tech and safety. It’s here where the new Focus leads the way.

A stellar safety rating

Thanks to its suite of safety systems, Euro NCAP awarded the new Ford Focus their maximum 5-star safety rating. It achieved 85% adult occupant, 87% child occupant, 72% vulnerable road user and 75% safety assist ratings. Those ratings put it at the top of the pile in the class and make it one of the safest cars on the road.

Impressive technologies

All models feature Pre-Collision Assist with Autonomous Emergency Braking and pedestrian/cyclist detection as standard. This system breaks for you if it detects an imminent collision. Euro NCAP tested this technology extensively and found it avoids accidents at speeds of up to 60 km/h or 37mph in pedestrian, cyclist, and car scenarios.

Lane-Keeping Aid with Lane-Departure Warning also comes as standard. This system steers for you to keep in the lane and warns you if you stray beyond the lines.

Intelligent Speed Assist also comes as a standard to help you stick to the speed limit. It detects the speed limit and adjusts your maximum speed setting to the limit, so it isn’t actually possible to accelerate beyond it. Of course, all these technologies can be switched off should you find them intrusive or annoying.

Cruise control is standard on Zetec models, while Titanium models also feature Ford KeyFree System with Keyless Entry and Keyless Start.

Vignale models boast Active Park Assist, a rear wide-view camera, and a head-up display that displays important information right in your eye line. Additional kit available across the range includes Traffic Sign Recognition, Speed Sign Recognition, Cross-Traffic Alert with Active Braking and FordPass Connect with e-Call.

Westaway Ford Focus,

The key takeaway with the new Ford Focus is all the most important safety technologies such as Lane-Keeping Aid and Pre-Collision Assist with Autonomous Emergency Braking are standard. You’re not asked to pay more for safety.

Further enhancements can be added optionally though. The £500 Convenience Pack adds a Rear Wide-view Camera and Active Park Assist (standard on Vignale models). The £400 BLIS pack (an optional extra across the range) adds Blind Spot Monitoring with Cross Traffic Alert and braking, a feature only usually found on high-end cars.

Add all these elements together, and you have the making of a new class leader for safety and tech. Nothing else comes close to the Ford Focus right now.
